Terms & Conditions
By attending counselling sessions, clients agree to the terms and conditions that are outlined below.
The counselling process is a professional therapeutic relationship that is entered into by the client autonomously as represented through the completed informed consent form, that will be done prior to the first session. For clients under the age of 18, that can not legally consent to the therapeutic process without parental consent, both the client and the parent/caregiver will provide written consent.
Contracting on the number of sessions and session intervals will be discussed and agreed upon within the first session and is subject to change as the process unfolds by both the client and the counsellor.
It is important to note that therapeutic outcomes and processes may differ from client to client based on the perceived needs of the client. I as the counsellor however do endeavour to act in the best interest of my client and avoid harm at all times, as is ethically mandated by the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners.
As part of my ethical obligation to act in the best interest of the client, I will work within the scope of practice outlined by ASCHP for the designation of a specialist wellness counsellor. This may result in the need for referral at any point in the counselling process. In the event of a referral, the referral will be discussed with the client and options explored for continued appropriate support of the client.
As a counsellor, I will keep record of case notes to support the continuation of therapy and the best outcomes for the client. These records are considered privileged and will therefore be kept private. Cases may be discussed within supervision towards best practices however no identifying information will be shared that could potentially break client anonymity.
As a counsellor, it is my legal duty to report any incidences of abuse that affect the persons at risk, namely children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. I am also obliged to break agreed-upon confidentiality if I believe that the client and or others may be at risk of harm.
As per agreement sessions will be billed for and the first session will be paid for upfront via EFT. Thereafter sessions will be billed monthly. I reserve the right to charge a full session fee for sessions that are cancelled within 24 hours. Changes to session times or the cancellation of a session can be done by the client with no penalty if this happens outside of a 24-hour period of the client’s next session.
